  1. I chose this book because when I read a little bit of it I liked it. It hooked me in on just the first paragraph. I really like the main character, I think it will be really interesting to read about her.

  3. I chose this book with my book club over the summer. We chose it because it sounded like an interesting story. We also just liked the cover, which really shouldn't affect one's judgement, but what the heck.

  9. I am half way through the book. I am at the part that Robbie and summer go into the barn. They see a big horse and something else happens, you will have to read and find out what happens next.

    1. What happens next is kind of scary and surprising and makes you hope that the main character doesn't get in trouble.

  10. I read to page 94 over the summer, but then stopped because I found he book boring. I decided to keep reading and now I am finding it really funny! Two characters, Obaachan and Mrs. Parker, pay so much attention to every last detail to every little detail that it gets funny but also really annoying. They have a lot in common, but they drive each other crazy.

  11. My last post kind of stunk in terms of quality, but I like the book much more after reading further into it. At first it is kind of depressing, but you need to read much farther than page 50 to really understand the ultimate structure of the plot.

  13. I am on page 181. Something happens and Summer is really surprised about it. Summer cooks for the harvesting team, with her grandmother.

  14. I think that Summer is not only surprised about this certain event but also kind of embarrassed. I think she is also scared that Obaachan knows exactly what happened.

  15. In the part I read tonight, there is a fair amount of illness involved. Jaz and Jiichan get the flu, and Summer makes a choice she is unsure of to help her family. I think she has made the right choice. I also think Mick is really obnoxious but most of the time he is correct about things, just saying stuff in an obnoxious way.

  18. Summer feels a tremendous amount of responsibility. In what ways does she feel
    responsible and why?

    1. Summer feels responsible for making food for the crew because Obaachan's back is causing her a lot of pain. She also feels responsible for driving the combine when Jiichan has the flu.

  19. Thunder, the family dog, goes along on the harvest. What pivotal role does he play? What conflict would be absent if he were not in the story?

    2. The pivotal role that Thunder played is the family dog. The conflict with the one that is in charge would not happen.
